BHUBANESWAR: The state cabinet on Saturday accredited the proposal of the scheduled tribes and scheduled castes growth, minorities and backward lessons welfare division for inclusion of twenty-two communities within the checklist of different backward lessons.
Briefing mediapersons of the cabinet determination, growth commissioner Pradeep Jena stated the Centre has already notified 22 castes together with their synonyms as OBCs for Odisha. However, they haven’t been included within the checklist of the socially and economically backward lessons (SEBCs) of the state.
“The cabinet has approved the proposed amendment of the Odisha State Commission for Backward Classes (OSCBC) Act, 1993 by inserting sub-section 3 under section-9, enabling the state government to include such backward classes in the state list of SEBCs, if the said backward classes have been specified in the Central list of OBCs for the state of Odisha,” he stated.
He stated that Article 15(4) of the Constitution permits the state to make any particular provisions for the development of any socially and educationally backward lessons of residents. Further, Article 46 offers that, the state will promote, with particular care, the tutorial and financial pursuits of the weaker sections of the individuals and shall shield them from social injustice and all types of exploitation.
In view of the social and academic backwardness of those 22 castes/communities together with their synonyms, they’re required to be included within the checklist of SEBCs for extending all social welfare measures and advantages, thereby bringing them to the mainstream of growth, he added.
