Indian Railways will now use solar energy to meet its power needs. Railways has prepared a mega plan to set up solar power plants on its large scale. By the year 2030, the railways will need 30 billion units of electricity.
new Delhi. Indian Railways is now moving towards producing 100 percent of its own power. By the year 2030, railways will need to consume more than 33 billion units of electricity. Currently it is 21 billion units. Railways have held a meeting with Solar Power Developers for their dependence on power generation and consumption. Railways will help all these solar power developers to put solar power plants on railway land. Along with this, the railways aim to become a government unit to achieve ‘Net Zero Carbon Emission’ by 2030 by completing power consumption through solar. Along with this, by the year 2023, 100 percent railway routes have been targeted to be electrified (Railway Routes).
Moving towards the self-reliant India (Atmnirbhar) scheme, Railways is now working on a mega plan to set up 2030 solar power plants of 20 GW capacity on their vacant lands. A meeting has also been held under the chairmanship of Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal to make 100 per cent of its requirement electricity self-sufficient and to complete the National Solar Power Goal.
Railways will supply the electricity used for its traction power through solar energy and will become a fully green transport medium. In this meeting held under the chairmanship of the Railway Minister, mainly three things were discussed.
1. What are the innovative ways to install solar projects near railway tracks.
2. What will be the possible power procurement routes to meet the target of 20 GW capacity. Railways wants to be a zero carbon emission transport medium by 2030.
3. What challenges will the railways have to face for setting up solar NG projects on a large scale.
this meeting, the developers said that the Railways is working diligently to promote renewable energy in the country. He has expected the Railways to meet the target by 2030. Let us know that recently Prime Minister Narendra Modi had emphasized to install renewable energy projects on the railway station with solar energy and the vacant land of the railways. This will promote the National Solar Mission initiative of the Central Government for solar energy in the country.
