Year Ender 2024: India had a great performance in sports in the year 2024, many big events took place this year, which included global events like T20 Cricket World Cup, Olympics, Paralympics, Chess Olympiad and World Chess Championship. In these games, Indian players gave many opportunities to Indian sports fans to celebrate by waving the tricolor. Now only 3 days are left for the year to end, so let’s take a look at those 5 big sporting achievements that India achieved this year.

T20 World Cup 2024 – India becomes world champion

On June 5, 2024, the Indian team started its campaign by defeating Ireland. After this, they defeated arch rival Pakistan by 6 runs in a thrilling match. India reached the Super 8 after defeating Canada and USA, where they got their first win against Afghanistan. By defeating Bangladesh and Australia, India qualified for the semi-finals and defeated defending champion England in the last 4. Indian team won the second T20 World Cup title by defeating South Africa by 7 runs in the title match. With this, the Indian team also ended the ICC Trophy drought that had been going on for 11 years, because the last time India won the ICC Champions Trophy was in 2013 under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

    paris olympics 2024

India’s campaign at the Paris Olympics ended with a total of six medals including one silver and five bronze. But the figure of double medal count remained far away. India could not even cross the figure of seven previous medals (1 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze) of the Tokyo Olympics. The issue of female wrestler Vinesh Phogat being 100 grams overweight had a huge impact on India’s medal hopes in these games.

Star shooter Manu Bhakar created history

Even though India could not break the record of Tokyo Olympics in Paris Olympics, India’s young star shooter Manu Bhaker did wonders by creating history. Manu Bhaker made an unimaginable comeback after ending his campaign on a very disappointing note at the Tokyo Olympics. At the Paris Olympics 2024, Manu Bhaker gave India its first medal by winning an individual bronze medal in the 10 meter air pistol category, after which he created a sensation by winning the second bronze medal in the mixed team event with Sarabjot Singh. She became the first Indian female athlete to win two medals in the same Olympics.

    Neeraj Chopra won silver medal

Tokyo Olympics’ golden boy Neeraj Chopra also created history by winning the silver medal in the Paris Olympics. India’s first gold medalist in track and field, Neeraj Chopra also managed to get silver in the javelin throw competition in Paris. Although he finished behind Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who won the gold medal with an extraordinary throw (92.97m), setting an Olympic record, Neeraj’s silver proved to be India’s biggest medal in Paris, which is a testament to the star athlete’s stature. And that’s enough to describe the performance.

Also won bronze in men’s hockey, shooting and freestyle wrestling.

Swapnil Kusale won India’s third bronze medal in men’s 50m rifle 3 positions shooting. After this the men’s hockey team won the bronze medal. Wrestler Aman Sehrawat won bronze medal in men’s 57 kg freestyle.

India’s performance in Paralympic Games was also very special

After the Paris Olympics, India’s performance in the Paralympic Games was also very special. In this Games, India created history by surpassing the performance of Paris Paralympics. India won a total of 29 medals in the Paris Paralympics, including seven gold medals. Apart from this, 9 silver medals and 13 bronze medals were also won. Earlier, Indian Paralympic players had given their best performance in the Tokyo 2020 Games, in which they had won 19 medals, including 5 gold medals.

Chess Olympiad India hoisted the tricolor

This year, the 45th Chess Olympiad was organized in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, in which 197 teams from 195 countries participated in the men’s category and 183 teams from 181 countries participated in the women’s category. During this period, India created history by winning gold medals in both men’s and women’s categories. In fact, this was the first time when India won gold medals in both categories in the same Olympiad.

D Gukesh won the title in chess

Apart from cricket, Olympic and Paralympic games, this year Gukesh D dominated the world of chess, who created history by becoming world chess champion at the age of just 18. Gukesh is only the second player to achieve this feat for India. He achieved this extraordinary feat by defeating Ding Liren of China on December 12, 2024. With this victory, India regained the title once again after 11 years. Earlier only Vishwanathan Anand had achieved this feat.
