Inspection of 28 hospitals in Raipur, Durg and Bilaspur: Registration of 15 hospitals cancelled

Raipur, February 10, 2025/ The Health and Family Welfare Department of the Chhattisgarh government, taking strict action on fraudulent claims under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Ayushman Health Yojana, inspected 28 hospitals in Raipur, Durg and Bilaspur. After the investigation, the registration of 15 hospitals was cancelled for one year, while 4 hospitals were suspended for 6 months, 4 for 3 months, and 5 were issued warning letters.

The National Health Authority (NHA)’s National Anti-Fraud Unit has been regularly identifying and sending triggers for fraudulent claims. In this series, the Chhattisgarh government had directed a detailed investigation and action, after which the State Nodal Agency identified suspicious hospitals and called a special meeting of state and district level officers. A comprehensive inspection campaign was conducted in Raipur, Durg and Bilaspur districts, in which joint teams of doctors and administrative officers conducted thorough physical inspections of two hospitals each day.

Show cause notices were issued to all 28 hospitals upon finding evidence of irregularities during the inspection, and sufficient time was given to respond. The explanations given by the hospitals were not found satisfactory, based on which action has been taken as per the rules.

Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai, stating that this action was necessary, said that the Chhattisgarh government is fully committed to protecting the health of the people. He said that the aim of the Ayushman Yojana and the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Ayushman Health Yojana is to provide accessible and free medical services to every citizen of the state. He warned that strict action will be taken against hospitals that commit irregularities, and such irregularities will not be tolerated.

Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal clarified that the state government is fully serious about the transparency of health schemes and that strict action will be taken against any hospital violating the rules. The Chhattisgarh government will strictly monitor and ensure that the benefits of the Ayushman Yojana reach only eligible beneficiaries in the correct manner, and such actions will continue in the future.
