A critical issue within the healthcare system has surfaced in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand. A government hospital turned away a pregnant woman, informing her that her baby had died. She then sought and received care at a private hospital, which resulted in a healthy birth. The situation has garnered significant attention, leading to an official inquiry.

Vinod Saw shared that he travelled with his wife, Manisha Devi, around 120 kilometers from the Chalcusha block to Hazaribagh’s Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital. Nurses allegedly stated that her hemoglobin level was low and claimed the fetus had died.

Vinod Saw, however, brought his wife to a private hospital, where Manisha gave birth to a healthy child. He thanked the medical professionals at St. Columba Mission Hospital for the safe delivery.

Responding to the controversy, Hazaribagh’s Deputy Commissioner, Shashi Prakash Singh, has ordered a probe into the matter. He instructed the Superintendent of Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital to create a committee for the investigation. Deputy Commissioner Shashi Prakash Singh said, ‘Government hospitals must provide better treatment at reasonable prices, but care was denied. I have instructed hospital administration to form an inquiry committee.’

Dr. Praveen Kumar, the owner of the private hospital, reported that following Manisha’s admission, necessary tests were performed, and the results were favorable. The woman subsequently delivered a healthy baby. ‘Both mother and newborn are doing well,’ confirmed Dr. Kumar.
