MI New York has named Nicholas Pooran as the captain for their upcoming 2025 season in the Major League Cricket (MLC). This announcement follows Pooran’s retirement from international cricket with the West Indies. He succeeds Kieron Pollard as the team’s leader.

Pooran’s international career saw him play 167 matches across all formats for the West Indies, including a record 106 T20 Internationals. He retires as the team’s highest run-scorer in T20Is, with 2,275 runs. Prior to this announcement, Pooran had opted out of the recent T20I series against England, choosing to rest after a demanding IPL 2025 season. His exceptional form in 2024 saw him break the record by hitting 170 sixes in a calendar year. He continued his outstanding performance in IPL 2025, scoring 524 runs with a strike rate of 196.25, featuring five fifties. His last appearance for the West Indies was in a T20I against Bangladesh in December 2024. He last played an ODI in July 2023 and never played Test cricket for the West Indies.
