An Air India flight, AI171, which was flying from Ahmedabad to London, was involved in a serious crash today. The plane took off from Runway 23 at Ahmedabad Airport at 1:17 PM. It crashed shortly after takeoff near the BJ Medical College campus in the Meghani Nagar area. This has caused a significant disruption.
The incident led to the cancellation of the Indigo flight from Raipur to Ahmedabad. According to the Raipur Airport Director, the Indigo flight, which usually flies from Raipur to Ahmedabad, has been cancelled until further notice.
Witnesses reported that the rear of the aircraft hit a tree during takeoff, leading to a loss of control and the crash in a residential area. A large amount of black smoke was seen rising from the crash site, causing widespread panic.
The plane was carrying 242 people in total, including 2 pilots, 10 cabin crew members, and 230 passengers. The aircraft was commanded by Captain Sumit Sabharwal, who had 8200 hours of flying experience. Co-pilot Clive Kunder had 1100 hours of experience. Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was a passenger on the flight.
