A new wave of concern has hit Chhattisgarh as the state reported its first death due to the new COVID-19 variant. The victim, 86-year-old Sonraj Golchha, residing in Azad Chowk, Rajnandgaon, succumbed to the illness after being admitted to a private hospital in Raipur. He had pre-existing conditions, including hypertension and high blood sugar. The COVID-19 test was positive, and he passed away on Saturday. The incident coincides with a rise in cases linked to the new variant across India. The country witnessed 11 deaths due to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. Chhattisgarh’s active case count has risen to 51. Health officials are taking necessary precautions, including testing the deceased’s family and contacts.
