The Indian Navy will formally induct the stealth multi-role frigate ‘Tamal’ into its service on July 1st in Kaliningrad, Russia. The commissioning ceremony will be attended by high-ranking officials from both India and Russia and will be headed by Vice Admiral Sanjay J. Singh. ‘Tamal’ represents a leap forward in naval technology, featuring advanced weaponry, including BrahMos missiles, and is equipped with extensive indigenous components. The frigate, built at the Yantar Shipyard, is an upgraded version of the earlier Talwar and Taig class warships. The ship’s design includes the ability to support helicopters, advanced warfare capabilities, and an advanced Electronic Warfare suite. The ship’s name and mascot are rich with symbolism, reflecting the long-standing partnership between India and Russia. The frigate’s crew has undergone rigorous training. Once commissioned, ‘Tamal’ will be part of the Western Fleet, demonstrating the Indian Navy’s commitment to operational excellence.
