In a statement, Shah highlighted the suffering of the people during the Emergency. He accused the Congress of attacking democratic institutions, suppressing the press, and imprisoning political opponents. The Union Cabinet observed a two-minute silence to honor those who suffered, and a resolution was passed to mark the 50th anniversary of the Emergency, which was described as an attack on the Constitution. The resolution also highlighted India’s continued commitment to democratic values.
