The ICC has implemented substantial rule changes impacting all three formats of cricket. Certain updates are already active, and those affecting white-ball cricket will take effect from July 2.

The most significant change involves the implementation of a stop clock in Test cricket. Fielding teams must begin a new over within 60 seconds of the previous one concluding. Penalties include warnings and a five-run penalty for delays.

Umpires have sole authority on ball changes. The DRS protocol now adjusts for cases where the ball only brushes the pad after an initial catch behind. TV umpires will assess multiple appeals in the order they occurred. In cases involving a no-ball, the third umpire assesses the catch’s fairness.

Stricter sanctions will be in place for deliberate short runs, allowing the fielding team to choose the next batter, and a five-run penalty for the batting team. Like-for-like replacements are now permitted in first-class matches for external injuries.
