In preparation for the upcoming assembly elections, the Election Commission has decided to upload Bihar’s 2003 voter list on its website. This move is part of an extensive revision of the voter rolls. Approximately 4.96 crore voters whose names are in the list will be able to easily access and use it for the special intensive revision of the voter list. The Election Commission has clarified that those voters included in the 2003 list will not be required to submit additional documentation to prove their birth date or place of birth, provided they attach the relevant portion of the revised voter list. The remaining voters, numbering about 30 million, will need to provide one of 11 listed documents to verify their birth details. The Chief Election Commissioner emphasized that the special intensive revision aims to ensure that no eligible voter is excluded, and that no ineligible voter is included. Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) will be responsible for making sure that all qualified citizens are included, and that no ineligible individuals are enrolled in the voters list, while carrying out the revision work. Bihar currently has 243 assembly seats with over 7.89 crore voters, with the last in-depth revision done in 2003.
