Widespread heavy rainfall has caused significant disruption across central and north India, resulting in traffic problems and severe waterlogging. Himachal Pradesh has been severely affected by cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides, greatly impacting daily life. Tragically, at least 69 lives have been lost in Himachal due to the adverse effects of the rain. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alerts for numerous states, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall in the coming days.
A red alert has been issued for Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. Orange alerts are in place for Jharkhand, Haryana, and Mumbai. The IMD is also forecasting torrential rains in Delhi, Bengaluru, and Rajasthan. Residents in Himachal’s Mandi district are enduring uncomfortable weather conditions, exacerbated by road closures due to heavy showers and landslides.
Over the next 48 hours, heavy rainfall is anticipated in Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, East Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir. The Met Department forecasts the southwest monsoon to remain active over the western Himalayan region and the plains for the next seven days. People are encouraged to remain cautious and take precautions to stay safe during these events. Stay informed by monitoring the IMD’s weather updates, seek shelter in safe locations, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay away from any electrical sources.
