The village of Dhora Basti, located in Baliguma Daher Tola, Jamshedpur, near the National Highway, has resolved to implement a complete ban on the sale and consumption of alcohol. This decision was made unanimously during a village council meeting. Ranjit Dhora, who led the meeting, highlighted the adverse effects of alcohol and encouraged the villagers to work together to enhance peace, safety, and community well-being. It was noted that of the seven mahua liquor shops previously operating in Dhora Basti, four vendors have shut down their businesses in support of the council’s decision. However, three vendors – Sanjay Dhora (alias Kanhu Dhora), Khukhi Dhora, Purnima Khutia, and Vishnu Dhora (alias Hablu Dhora) – are still illegally selling alcohol, which is causing social disruption in the village. On Tuesday, representatives from the Dhora Basti village council met with the Deputy Commissioner to provide detailed information and submit a memorandum. The villagers are optimistic that the administration will take positive steps to ensure lasting peace, improved social conditions, and the protection of women and children. Attendees at the meeting included Gulu Dhora, Jono Dhora, Jushna Vibhar, Chumki Dhora, Chamatkar Dhora, Subita Dhora, Kamala Dhora, Sombari Dhibar, Sabita Dhora, Romi Nath, Kartik Dhora, Lokhim Nath, Deepak Dhora, Ladhen Dhora, Chhotu Nath, Anil Dhora, Deepak Ranjit, Rakhal Soren, Chaman Singh, and Sonu Singh, along with other local residents.
