US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has stated that it’s highly probable that President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet this year. Speaking at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur, Rubio noted the strong desire from both the US and China to make the meeting happen. Although he couldn’t provide a specific date, he stressed the interest of both sides in setting up the meeting. The announcement followed a meeting between Rubio and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Kuala Lumpur, where both discussed current trade and geopolitical issues. During the meeting, both sides identified potential areas for collaboration. The recent trip marks Rubio’s first visit to Asia since becoming Secretary of State.
