Philippe Lazzarini, the UNRWA chief, has described Gaza as a graveyard for children and those facing starvation, condemning what he termed a ‘cruel and Machiavellian scheme to kill.’ This statement follows reports of nearly 800 fatalities at aid distribution centers. The Gaza government office reported that at least 773 Palestinians have been killed and 5,101 injured since May 27 while waiting for food aid near sites backed by the US and Israel. Lazzarini’s comments were made after an Israeli military attack that resulted in the deaths of 15 people, including children, who were waiting for nutritional supplements. Medical sources also confirmed that 45 people were killed on the same day, with 11 near a GHF-run aid center in Rafah. The UN human rights office reported 798 killings near aid points in Gaza between May and July 7. Several reports from news sources have revealed that Israeli soldiers and US contractors have acknowledged shooting unarmed Palestinians gathering for food. Carl Skau, deputy executive director of the World Food Programme (WFP), reported the situation in Gaza as ‘the worst that he has ever seen it’, with enough food to feed the population for two months but trucks are being denied entry.
