India has responded to the European Union’s recent sanctions, stating it does not support unilateral measures. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that India is committed to fulfilling its legal obligations. The government considers energy security a crucial responsibility and emphasizes the need for equitable practices, especially within energy trade. This follows previous statements regarding NATO chief Mark Rutte’s comments on possible secondary sanctions tied to Russian oil, highlighting India’s emphasis on securing its energy needs based on market conditions and global circumstances. The MEA has also cautioned against double standards on this issue. The NATO chief urged India, China, and Brazil to reconsider their oil purchases from Russia.
