Kayoze Irani’s debut film ‘Sarzameen’ is a bold attempt to create a thrilling experience. The film attempts to surprise the audience with unexpected plot turns, however, they are not always successful. The story revolves around a family, with Kajol portraying the mother of a Kashmiri boy who has been radicalized, and Prithviraj playing the role of the army officer father. The film touches upon the themes of familial bonds and the impact of radicalization, highlighting the challenges within a family. The film features commendable performances from Prithviraj and Ibrahim Ali Khan. While ambitious, ‘Sarzameen’ is constrained by its limited scope and is not able to achieve the visual depth of films such as ‘Roja’ or ‘Mission: Kashmir’.
