Ahead of the launch of the Yellow Line of Bengaluru’s Namma Metro, connecting RV Road and Bommasandra via Electronic City, discussions are focused on the shared nature of the project. Karnataka leaders have clarified that the Namma Metro is a collaborative endeavor, with the central and state governments equally involved. The inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled for August 10. State leaders are highlighting the state government’s participation in the project. The Prime Minister will inaugurate the Yellow Line at IIM Bengaluru and will take a metro ride with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, and local legislators. The Deputy Chief Minister, also the minister in charge of Bengaluru, affirmed that both the central and state governments have equal shares in the metro project. He emphasized that the inauguration was scheduled following a request made to the Prime Minister by the Chief Minister and himself. Shivakumar stressed that public service is the most important aspect, irrespective of credit. The Yellow Line, which is 19.15 km long and has 16 stations, cost Rs 7,610 crore to build. An appeal will be made to the Prime Minister for funds for the double-decker project’s land acquisition. Shivakumar also urged Members of Parliament to help secure funds for expanding the metro network. Regarding safety, he confirmed that the Yellow Line received clearance from the Commissionerate of Railway Safety on July 31. Initially, trains will run every 25 minutes, with plans to increase frequency to 10 minutes when more train sets arrive. He concluded by thanking all those who worked on the Yellow Line project on behalf of the state government.
