The Election Commission has ordered Tejashwi Yadav, the RJD leader, to submit his voter ID card by August 16th, citing concerns about its authenticity. The ECI has declared the document to be “clearly fake.” The commission has stated that fabricating and utilizing false government documents is a punishable offense. The directive was communicated in a letter from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate and Electoral Registration Officer of the Digha Assembly constituency. Earlier, the officer had requested Yadav to submit the voter ID for verification. The ERO’s review of voter records confirmed that the Election Commission had not issued a voter ID with the number Yadav presented. The letter underscored the illegality of producing and using fraudulent government documents and reiterated the deadline for surrendering the voter ID.
