The company is developing a series hybrid setup where the engine functions solely as a generator or range extender. The electricity generated by the hybrid system will directly power the electric motor, which drives the wheels. This setup is simpler than the series-parallel system. Maruti’s high-end SUVs will continue to use Toyota’s strong hybrid system. Maruti will introduce its new hybrid system with the Z12E three-cylinder petrol engine, currently found in the Swift. The upcoming Maruti hybrid cars are anticipated to deliver a fuel efficiency of over 35 kmpl.
