Air India has revealed plans to temporarily halt its non-stop flights from Delhi to Washington DC from September 1st. The move is motivated by operational constraints. The primary factor is the ongoing retrofit program for 26 Boeing 787-8 aircraft, which will limit the airline’s fleet availability until the end of 2026. The closure of Pakistani airspace also contributes to operational hurdles, increasing flight times and complexity. Customers with existing bookings for travel after September 1st will be contacted and provided with alternative options, including rebooking or full refunds. Air India will still maintain non-stop flights between India and six North American destinations, including Canada.
