On the sets of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati 17’, Amitabh Bachchan regaled the audience with a lighthearted story from the making of the classic film ‘Sholay’, focusing on the antics of his co-star, Dharmendra. The film is soon approaching its 50th anniversary.

When a participant requested a story about the film, Bachchan recounted Dharmendra’s carefree attitude. He revealed that Dharmendra often slept on the set after night shoots, while others would travel back to Bangalore, a journey of about 90 minutes. The set was located in Ramgarh, near Bangalore. Bachchan also recalled an occasion when he and Dharmendra were returning to Bangalore in their cars, only for their vehicles to break down. Subsequently, they took an auto-rickshaw to return to Ramgarh.

‘Sholay’, directed by Ramesh Sippy, was a landmark film, and the dialogues and screenplay were written by Salim-Javed, with music by R.D. Burman. The film, released in 1975, broke the long-standing record of ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ for highest earnings, a record ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ had held for 15 years.
