A highly anticipated meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled for August 15th in Alaska. This meeting is historic as it marks the first time these leaders will meet on American territory. The primary aim is to address the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Whether a resolution is achievable remains to be seen. Trump has already signaled that failure to agree on a ceasefire would carry consequences. However, the task of persuading Putin is difficult. Putin is known for his experience and political strategy, and is likely to try to outmaneuver the US President during this meeting. Here’s a look at the potential offers Trump may present to Putin.

    Possible Offers from Trump:

First, Trump could offer access to mineral resources and natural resources of Alaska in exchange for peace. This may involve granting Putin access to valuable minerals located in Ukrainian territories currently under Russian control. This could include access to lithium reserves. The lithium reserves are primarily located in areas under Russian control. Putin has also claimed these valuable minerals.

Second, Trump might be willing to concede the territories Russia has already seized in Ukraine, without formal recognition of their annexation. This includes Russia’s control over four Ukrainian regions, ensuring Ukraine’s neutrality, and limiting its military capabilities. It’s reported that prior to the Alaska meeting, Russia proposed a peace deal through Trump’s special envoy, including a ceasefire if Ukraine relinquished the Donbas region, a proposal Ukraine rejected.

Third, Trump may assure Putin that he can facilitate the removal of economic and trade sanctions imposed on Russia by European nations. Furthermore, the US could consider lifting sanctions specific to the Russian aviation industry. Trump had previously given Putin a deadline to accept a ceasefire agreement.
