The Indian selectors are set to decide on the squad for the Asia Cup 2025 on August 19, with several surprising selection decisions anticipated. Despite impressive displays in the recent England series, the inclusion of Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj is now in doubt. Similarly, Shreyas Iyer’s spot in the team is also uncertain. The selectors are reportedly choosing between Iyer, Riyan Parag, Washington Sundar, and Rinku Singh. Mohammed Siraj, who performed exceptionally well in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, might be excluded, with Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Prasidh Krishna in contention. Shreyas Iyer, who led Punjab Kings in IPL 2025 and scored 604 runs, last played a T20 for India in December 2023. The selection committee is also debating the best approach for including Shubman Gill, considering various options, but none of them appeared viable. Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma, who have impressed with their opening performances, are likely to be retained, while Tilak Varma is also expected to keep his place. The possibility of replacing Gill with Yashasvi Jaiswal was also considered but rejected.
