To address the rising number of fatalities among two-wheeler riders in Raipur, the Senior Superintendent of Police, Dr. Lal Umed Singh, has mandated that all two-wheeler showrooms provide a helmet with every new vehicle sold. This new rule aims to mitigate head injuries sustained in road accidents. The police department has taken this step due to the high number of fatalities in the city. In the last seven months, the police have issued over 20,495 challans for not wearing helmets. The SSP’s order underscores the significance of road safety and references the Motor Vehicles Act 1989, section 138. Showrooms that fail to comply with the directive may face penalties, including the suspension or cancellation of their business licenses. Dr. Singh has urged both vehicle sellers and the public to prioritize helmet use to improve safety and reduce fatalities on the road.
