The Punjab government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has established a high-powered committee to oversee relief and rescue efforts in flood-affected regions. This committee, consisting of senior officials from key state departments, will be stationed in Amritsar and other impacted areas, providing daily supervision. The Chief Minister underscored the government’s dedication to supporting the affected population and instructed officials to promptly implement the committee’s directives. The Chief Secretary has been tasked with visiting the affected areas to ensure an efficient response from government bodies. The primary focus is to accelerate relief operations to offer substantial assistance. The state is experiencing extreme water flows, with the Ravi River receiving unprecedented levels of water, exceeding historical records. The government has reached out to neighboring states to manage water flow. The Indian Army is actively involved in rescue operations, working alongside the administration with advanced equipment. The NDRF has deployed 17 teams to assist with relief measures, and ongoing operations are focused on rescuing people, assessing damage, and preventing disease outbreaks. A collaborative effort is underway to complete relief and rescue tasks, including the repair of river breaches. Medical teams are providing preventive care, including water sampling and disease detection. Water tankers will supply clean water, and water quality will be tested. Essential supplies are being provided to marooned villages. Pumping operations are underway to remove floodwater. Detailed surveys are being conducted to assess damage to infrastructure. Medical relief will be available through various means, with mobile medical units deployed. Special teams will target dengue larva and educate the public on disease prevention. Veterinary teams will care for affected livestock, while a comprehensive sanitation drive will be implemented to control the spread of waterborne diseases.
