B. Sudarshan Reddy, the opposition’s candidate for Vice President, has begun his campaign by appealing to all MPs for their backing in the upcoming election. Reddy stated his desire to maintain the election’s integrity. He mentioned his decision to run was motivated by the current national climate, and his 45-year history of constitutional protection. He met with Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren to seek his support, and emphasized the importance of the Preamble to the Constitution. Reddy spoke about the arrest of Hemant Soren and the role of constitutional bodies, questioning who would compensate for the damage to Soren’s reputation. He discussed the need for voter list revisions and expressed concerns about the current voter additions and removals. Reddy has written to all members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, seeking support, and intends to meet with BJP leaders. He also offered a tribute to Dishom Guru Shibu Soren. In response to questions, Reddy stated he would comment on the 130th Amendment Bill after the Joint Committee report. He also refrained from commenting on judicial appointments via the collegium system, indicating it needed a separate discussion. His primary goal is to uphold the constitutional standards of the Vice Presidential election. He also affirmed that he will not allow the Constitution’s principles to be undermined. Regarding the former governor’s actions related to the arrest of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Reddy chose not to make any personal comments.
