The Premchand Rangshala hosted the Megh Malhar Festival 2025 on Saturday, a collaboration between the Department of Art, Culture & Youth and the Bharatiya Nritya Kala Mandir. The event began with a lighting of the lamp ceremony led by Ruby, the director of the cultural affairs directorate, and other key officials. The atmosphere was filled with spirituality with the chant of ‘Tamaso ma jyotirgamaya’.
Rahul Rajak, a Kathak dancer from Katihar, presented a Kathak performance based on the Madhurashtakam, directed and voiced by Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj. The performance, depicting the sweetness of Lord Krishna, enhanced the festival’s atmosphere. He followed with performances evoking the monsoon season and expressing themes of separation through his Kathak on Kajri.
Ali Khan, a singer from Rajasthan, and his group added to the festivities with a traditional welcome song ‘Padharo Mare Desh’. They captivated the audience with their voices and melodies, and further performed Rajasthani folk dances.
Chandni Shukla and her team from Purnia showcased the cultural richness of Bihar. They began with a song by the Maithili poet Vidyapati, followed by Bhojpuri and Maithili folk songs. The artists of Bharatiya Nritya Kala Mandir concluded the program with a devotional dance.
