The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is implementing a pioneering tolling system that eliminates the need for vehicles to stop at toll plazas. In collaboration with ICICI Bank, the Indian Highway Management Company Limited (IHMCL) will introduce the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) system. The first implementation will be at the Choryasi toll plaza on NH-48 in Gujarat.

This system utilizes advanced technology, including high-performance RFID readers and ANPR cameras, to read FASTags and vehicle registration plates, automatically deducting tolls. This will streamline traffic flow, reduce congestion, and cut down on travel time and fuel consumption. This will also decrease pollution and increase transparency in toll collection. The system is also planned for deployment at the Gharaunda toll plaza on NH-44 in Haryana. NHAI aims to expand the MLFF system to around 25 toll plazas during the fiscal year 2025-26.

NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav stated that this project is a significant step towards modernizing the tolling system in India, promoting efficiency, transparency, and user-friendliness. The technology-driven initiative aligns with the vision of an advanced national highway network.
