In Rajasthan, a man named Kishan has been sentenced to death for fatally attacking his wife, Laxmi, with acid. The attacks were motivated by his disdain for her dark complexion. Kishan frequently mocked her and they often fought about her appearance. On the night of the attack, Kishan told Laxmi he had applied a medicine to her. She complained of an acidic smell, which he dismissed. He then lit an incense stick on her stomach, which caused her to catch fire. He poured the remaining liquid over her as she burned. The woman died as a result of these actions. A case was filed at the Vallabhnagar police station in Udaipur, and the accused was presented to the Additional District Judge Court. The prosecutor cited the victim’s complexion as the motivation for the acid attack. The judge stated the death penalty was given to uphold societal standards.
