The Chhattisgarh government has introduced a new schedule for schools on Saturdays, modifying both the operational hours and the activities planned for the day. A key change involves moving yoga and exercise sessions from the morning to the afternoon, after the lunch break. Initially, schools operated on Saturdays from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM; the new schedule sets the hours from 10 AM to 4 PM. The schedule for Saturdays includes: 10:00-10:15 AM: Prayer, National Anthem, and monthly theme discussion; 10:15-11:05 AM: First period: Mother tongue, library, assessment-based remedial education; 11:05-11:55 AM: Second period: Mathematics and remedial education; 11:55-12:05 PM: Short break; 12:05-12:55 PM: Third period: English and remedial education; 12:55-1:45 PM: Fourth period: Environment and remedial education; 1:45-2:35 PM: Lunch break; 2:35-3:15 PM: Fifth period: Workbook, reading-writing, subject-wise remedial education; 3:15-4:00 PM: Final period: Physical education, yoga, games, art, and gardening. The shift has sparked criticism, with teacher leaders considering it impractical and calling for the restoration of the previous Saturday school timings. They emphasize the importance of maintaining the morning schedule for activities like exercise and sports.
