Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Semicon India-2025, with the goal of accelerating the growth of India’s semiconductor industry. The Prime Minister is scheduled to participate in the conference on both Tuesday and Wednesday, including a CEO roundtable session. The conference, spanning three days, will be dedicated to fostering a robust, self-sufficient, and enduring semiconductor ecosystem within India. The event will feature discussions on the progress of the Semicon India program, semiconductor fabrication, advanced packaging projects, infrastructure preparedness, smart manufacturing practices, research and development, innovation in artificial intelligence, investment opportunities, and the implementation of state-level policies. It will also highlight initiatives under the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) plan, the expansion of the startup ecosystem, international collaboration, and the future direction of India’s semiconductor sector. The event is expected to attract over 20,750 participants, including more than 2,500 delegates from more than 48 countries, over 50 global figures, over 150 speakers, and more than 350 exhibitors. There will be roundtable discussions involving six countries, in addition to country pavilions and dedicated areas for workforce development and startups. Continuing the Prime Minister’s vision of positioning India as a key hub for semiconductor design, manufacturing, and technology development, similar conferences were held in Bengaluru in 2022, Gandhinagar in 2023, and Greater Noida in 2024. During his recent trip to Japan, Prime Minister Modi and Japan signed 21 key agreements, with a major emphasis on collaboration in the semiconductor and AI sectors. During this visit, PM Modi toured the Tokyo Electron semiconductor plant, and both nations committed to strengthening strategic partnerships in advanced technologies. Japan is a global leader in the field of semiconductor equipment and materials. A key element of the India-Japan agreement involves the transfer of older Japanese technologies to India, with the aim of reducing dependence on China and enhancing economic security.
