Trump, in a White House announcement, described the relationship as ‘very special’ and maintained his friendship with Modi. However, he also expressed displeasure with certain of Modi’s actions. When questioned about resetting relations, Trump reaffirmed his friendship while acknowledging disagreements. He discussed his disappointment regarding India’s oil purchases from Russia, mentioning a significant tariff. The MEA spokesperson previously underscored the importance of the bilateral relationship during a weekly press briefing. The spokesperson highlighted the strategic partnership rooted in shared interests, democratic values, and strong people-to-people ties, emphasizing its resilience and the continued focus on their agenda, hoping for further progress based on mutual respect and shared interests.
