The Pakistani government has placed Hafiz Saeed’s friend in charge of controlling terrorists within the country. According to the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, a committee of religious scholars has been established to manage terrorists and promote peace. Tahir Ashrafi has been appointed as the coordinator of this committee. Ashrafi is known for his close association with Hafiz Saeed, often sharing the stage with him. He also accompanied Saeed to the Lahore High Court in 2018. Their relationship led to the departure of the Palestinian ambassador from Islamabad in 2018. Tahir Ashrafi is a respected Islamic scholar from the Punjab province. He holds a degree in Islamic studies and has a significant presence on social media. In 2020, he was appointed as an advisor on religious affairs during the Imran Khan government. He is also knowledgeable about Middle Eastern affairs and has strong connections in Pakistani politics. Ashrafi studied at Punjab University and worked as a journalist before pursuing his PhD. In response to the increasing terrorist activities, the Shehbaz Sharif government has decided to form a peace committee. This committee will include religious scholars such as Haji Abdul Karim, Abdul Rahman, Arif Hussain Wahidi, Naqib ur Rehman, Hussain Naeemi, and Tahir Ashrafi, who will serve as the coordinator. The committee will also include Rajesh Hardasani, representing the Hindu community, and Bishop Azad Marshall, representing the Christian community.
