Sanjay Singh, a leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, is under house arrest in Jammu and Kashmir. The authorities took this measure to stop Singh from protesting the detention of AAP MLA Mehraj Malik. Earlier, Sanjay Singh, an AAP Lok Sabha MP, strongly condemned the detention of Mehraj Malik under the Public Safety Act (PSA), labeling it as illegal and unconstitutional. Singh, accompanied by Imran Hussain, the party’s Jammu and Kashmir in-charge, was confined to a guest house in Srinagar to prevent a protest. He had planned a press conference in Srinagar to address Malik’s arrest but was stopped before it could occur. Singh announced his house arrest via a post on X (formerly Twitter). In his posts, he expressed his disappointment about not being able to meet with Dr. Farooq Abdullah. He also stated that he believes that it is his constitutional right to protest in the name of democracy.
