The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has taken issue with the use of the term ‘Bombay’ on Kapil Sharma’s Netflix show, ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show,’ and has issued a warning. The party is demanding that the show’s team and guests use the official name, Mumbai, instead. Ameya Khopkar, the head of the MNS film wing, shared a video clip from the show as an example of the improper usage. Khopkar noted that the city’s name has been Mumbai for 30 years, and the repeated use of ‘Bombay’ is unacceptable. The MNS views this as a matter of respect for the city and its people. The political party clarified that the warning is not connected to elections or political motivations. Khopkar has asked Kapil Sharma and his team to ensure all future episodes use the name Mumbai. The Great Indian Kapil Show features popular comedians and has been running since June this year.
