Super Retail Group has terminated Anthony Heraghty’s employment as CEO following the board’s conclusion that his disclosures regarding his relationship with former Chief Human Resources Officer Jane Kelly were inadequate. The board made its decision after receiving additional information from Heraghty. The company, which controls popular retail brands like Rebel Sport, BCF, and Supercheap Auto, did not reveal the specific details of the undisclosed information. Allegations of a relationship between Heraghty and Kelly were first reported in April 2024. Former chief legal officer Rebecca Farrell and co-company secretary Amelia Berczelly claimed they were subjected to threats and harassment after complaining about the relationship. Court filings showed Berczelly witnessed Heraghty and Kelly in a Brisbane hotel lobby in June 2023, while another employee reported an incident in a bar in 2022. David Burns, the Chief Financial Officer, has been named interim CEO. The board has cut all financial ties with Heraghty, canceling his unvested incentives. The company’s shares decreased by 2.6% in early trading, causing concern among investors. Analysts were surprised by the timing of the announcement. This situation follows a separate corporate scandal involving the departure of Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and Chief People Officer Kristin Cabot after being caught on a ‘kiss cam’ at a Coldplay concert.
