The Taliban has dismissed former US President Donald Trump’s call for the return of the Bagram Airbase, underscoring its assertion of Afghanistan’s autonomy. In Kabul, Fasihuddin Fitrat, the Chief of Staff of the Taliban’s armed forces, stated that Afghanistan is now completely independent and is not subject to the influence of any foreign entities. He made it clear that they are not intimidated by any external pressures and will not compromise on Afghan land. The Taliban has stated that the return of the base is not possible and that any attempt to force the issue will be met with a strong reaction. Trump had previously warned on Truth Social that Afghanistan’s refusal to return the Bagram Airbase could have negative implications. He also criticized the decision to abandon the base, claiming it led to the Taliban gaining control of American military equipment and resources.
