Premchand Sahu, the individual accused of murdering Saraswati Kumari, a minor girl with whom he was in a live-in relationship in Kumang village of Tapkara police station area, has been arrested. The arrest took place on Saturday night. Torpa zone’s Inspector Ashok Kumar Singh and Tapkara’s police station in-charge Nitesh Kumar Gupta shared details of the arrest at a press conference held at the Torpa police station on Sunday. Premchand Sahu, the suspect, is from Malgo village in the Lapung police station area of Ranchi. The police were informed that he intended to flee on a motorcycle. Based on this intelligence, a raid was conducted in the Torpa police station area, leading to his arrest. During questioning, the accused admitted to the murder of Saraswati Kumari. The police recovered the knife used in the crime, the motorcycle, a bag and a mobile phone based on his statements. The raiding party included Torpa’s Circle Police Inspector Ashok Kumar Singh, Torpa’s Police Station in-charge Mukesh Kumar Hemberam, Tapkara’s Police Station in-charge Nitesh Kumar Gupta, SI Shyamal Kumbhkar, and armed officers from Torpa and Tapkara police stations. He has been sent to judicial custody. The Tapkara police station in-charge denied reports circulating on social media that the accused, Premchand Sahu, had escaped with handcuffs and was later apprehended after three hours, stating that these reports were baseless.
