A Ramleela performance in Chamba turned to tragedy when actor Amresh Mahajan, playing King Dashrath, died from a cardiac arrest while on stage. The event unfolded on Tuesday evening at the Chaugan Ground, with a video capturing the moment Mahajan collapsed during his performance. Fellow actors quickly responded, realizing the severity of the situation. Mahajan was immediately transported to Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru Government Medical College and Hospital, where his death was confirmed. Swapan Mahajan, President of the Shri Ramleela Club, Chamba, expressed deep sorrow upon confirming the actor’s passing. Amresh Mahajan had been an integral part of the Ramleela for more than twenty years, frequently portraying the roles of Raja Dashrath or Ravana. Other club members remembered his dedication to the production. The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 PM on Tuesday. Mahajan, seated on the throne, was delivering his lines when he began to lose consciousness, leaning to his left. The performance was immediately halted, leaving the audience in shock. A similar incident, in which a property dealer playing Lord Ram died during a Ramleela in Delhi, was also reported.
