Ladakhi activist Sonam Wangchuk is embroiled in allegations of financial wrongdoing. The government is investigating his financial dealings, particularly concerning foreign funding and discrepancies within his NGO and private institutions. Wangchuk is accused of exploiting a mass movement to violate laws and misuse foreign funds for personal benefit. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is poised to investigate Wangchuk’s NGO, SECMOL, under the FEMA Act. The investigation will focus on SECMOL’s alleged failure to accurately report foreign donations, non-compliance with the FCRA Act, and failure to return funds received from abroad. Furthermore, the Home Ministry has taken action, revoking Wangchuk’s FCRA registration.
