A serious accident occurred in the Katihar district of Bihar during the preparations for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s visit. Two workers were killed when a speeding SUV struck them while they were working on the roadside. The event happened at the NH 31 near Vishahari Sthan, under the jurisdiction of the Kurseela police station. The deceased individuals have been identified as Mohammad Hanif, aged 48, and Mohammad Gulzar, aged 24. Around 4 a.m., while preparations were being made for the Chief Minister’s visit, the accident occurred when a speeding SUV, attempting to pass a truck, collided with the two workers. The force of the impact caused the workers to be thrown in the air. The SUV then fled the scene, running over the victims. Both laborers died at the scene. The accident resulted in the enraged laborers blocking NH 31, thus bringing traffic to a halt on the Purnia-Barauni route. Police and senior officials were dispatched to the scene. After speaking with the workers and bringing the situation under control, the officials managed to clear the road. The highway blockade lasted for around 2 hours while the workers demanded compensation for their deceased colleagues. The two workers were uncle and nephew. The police took control of the bodies and sent them to Katihar for a post-mortem. The Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was scheduled to visit Sameli, Katihar district on September 27 for the unveiling of a statue dedicated to Katihar Sahitya Ratna Anoop Lal Mandal and various other projects.
