The imposition of 50% tariffs by US President Donald Trump on India, linked to Russian oil purchases, is creating a ‘big impact’ on Moscow, according to NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte. Rutte claimed Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked Russia for clarification on its strategy in Ukraine, considering the impact on India due to the tariffs. The initial 25% tariff was followed by another 25% penalty, with the US citing India’s support for Russia’s actions through its oil purchases. Trump mentioned ongoing negotiations with India to address trade barriers and anticipated a successful resolution. Prime Minister Modi expressed confidence that the trade talks would unlock the full potential of the India-US partnership, calling the countries ‘close friends and natural partners’. Modi confirmed teams are working to finalize these discussions at the earliest and looks forward to speaking with President Trump to build a brighter future.
