Homebound’s Modest Box Office Opening, Despite Oscar Buzz

The movie ‘Homebound,’ starring Vishal Jethwa, Janhvi Kapoor, and Ishaan Khatter, has been released in Indian cinemas. While the film has been celebrated in various film festivals worldwide, with praise for its story, acting, and direction, it had a low opening at the box office. The film collected only Rs 29 lakh on its opening day. This film also has the distinction of being India’s official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards. Director Neeraj Ghaywan expressed his gratitude, and Martin Scorsese served as executive producer. ‘Homebound’ premiered at the 78th Cannes Film Festival and was shown at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival and Melbourne International Film Festival.
