During his address to the UN General Assembly, EAM S Jaishankar addressed the issue of terrorism and India’s role in promoting global peace and cooperation. He began his speech by referencing the principles of the UN. Jaishankar spoke about the growth of the UN and its evolution, including the expansion of its goals to encompass development, climate change, and global well-being. Jaishankar highlighted India’s continuous fight against terrorism, particularly that originating from a neighboring country. He pointed out that the major international terrorist attacks are traced back to one country, as evidenced by the UN’s lists of designated terrorists. The recent murder of tourists in Pahalgam served as a stark reminder of cross-border terrorism and India’s actions to deliver justice. He emphasized the need for international cooperation to counter terrorism and called for strong condemnation of nations that support terrorism. He also advocated for choking the funding of terrorism. He called for expanding the UN Security Council and affirmed India’s desire to take on greater responsibilities. Jaishankar also highlighted India’s humanitarian work, including aid to Afghanistan and Myanmar, along with its efforts to ensure safe commerce, combat piracy, and support peace in conflict zones like Ukraine and Gaza. He concluded by emphasizing India’s commitment to sharing its development experiences, including the use of Artificial Intelligence for the betterment of humanity.
