After India’s win against Pakistan in the Asia Cup final, Priyanka Chaturvedi, a member of the Rajya Sabha, brought attention to the potential misuse of funds generated from the tournament. She stated that the funds, which go to the Pakistan Cricket Board, could be used to rebuild terrorist camps like Muridke. She cautioned against overlooking this serious concern amidst the celebratory atmosphere of India’s victory. Chaturvedi underscored that India’s issue with Pakistan extends beyond the cricket field to the terrorism that harms the nation. She urged every Indian to remember that the issue is not just about sports, but also the damage caused to the country. This follows the backdrop of the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in 26 fatalities, and the Indian army’s Operation Sindoor on May 7. The operation resulted in the destruction of terrorist hideouts and targeting of Pakistani airbases, including those in Rawalpindi and Muridke. Chaturvedi expressed her serious concerns about the possible reconstruction of these areas.
