A tragic event unfolded in Chennai as a steel arch at the Ennore Thermal Power construction site collapsed, resulting in the loss of nine lives on Tuesday. Initial assessments suggest that several workers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Stanley Government Hospital in North Chennai. Police officials are investigating the exact cause of the collapse. The Chairman of TANGEDCO, Dr. J. Radhakrishnan, reported that the deceased workers hailed from Assam and surrounding areas. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief over the incident. He announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹2 lakh from the PMNRF to the next of kin of each deceased, and ₹50,000 for the injured.
