The Kremlin has warned of potential global devastation resulting from actions by the Trump administration in support of Ukraine. Russian officials have cautioned that providing Ukraine with Tomahawk cruise missiles could severely escalate the ongoing conflict.
Dmitry Peskov, a Kremlin spokesperson, stated that Moscow would interpret such a decision as a major provocation, which would warrant a robust response. Peskov emphasized that it would represent a considerable escalation of existing tensions, requiring a corresponding response from Russia.
This warning follows discussions about the US potentially permitting Ukraine to strike within Russia using long-range missiles. This potential policy shift has caused concern in Moscow, with officials seeing it as a crossing of a critical boundary. Peskov dismissed any suggestion that advanced weapons could alter the course of the conflict and reiterated that Russia’s military aims will remain unchanged.
Peskov addressed the aid provided by the US and Europe, claiming that there is no single weapon which can magically provide victory to Kyiv and that no weapon can fully turn the tide on the front lines. Peskov additionally warned that some US officials have hinted at approving long-range attacks inside Russian territory. He stated that Russia would respond if such attacks were executed and that the consequences would be grave. He reiterated Russia’s positive attitude toward peace while pointing out Kyiv’s role as the major impediment to its establishment.
