Raipur, October 05, 2025/ The mineral-rich state of Chhattisgarh has made remarkable progress in the mining sector in recent years. By focusing on transparency, accountability, and technological innovation, the state has made many structural improvements in mineral administration, as a result of which Chhattisgarh has been included in the leading mining states of the country. The state has proven the availability of critical, strategic, and rare earth minerals from world-class iron ore, coal, limestone, bauxite, tin ore, including new explorations, which has strengthened the state’s global identity.
The mining sector of Chhattisgarh is contributing about 10 percent to the state’s gross domestic product, while its share in the country’s total mineral production is about 17 percent. The state’s mineral revenue has increased 34 times in 25 years. Where the mineral revenue was only Rs 429 crore at the time of the formation of the state, it increased to Rs 14,592 crore in the year 2024-25. This achievement is the result of the state’s robust mineral policy and continuous administrative reforms.
Under the Mineral Auction Rules 2015, constituted under the amended Mining and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 in the year 2015, 60 mineral blocks have been successfully auctioned in the state so far. These include 15 iron ore, 14 bauxite, 18 limestone and 13 critical and strategic mineral blocks. Along with this, the auction process of 05 new blocks (02 limestone, 01 iron ore, 01 gold and 01 base metal block) has also been started.
The Directorate of Geology and Mining, Chhattisgarh has signed MoUs with IIT Mumbai, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and Coal India Limited for long-term cooperation in the field of mining research and exploration. Through this partnership, the search for critical and strategic minerals has gained momentum from a scientific perspective.
In accordance with the guidelines of the Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana-2024, the District Mineral Foundation Trust Rules, 2025 have been notified in the state. So far, a contribution of Rs 16,119 crore has been received in the state, under which 1,05,653 works have been approved, out of which 74,454 works have been completed. DMF portal 2.0 has been implemented to ensure transparency in financial approval, monitoring and management.
The Mineral Online 2.0 portal developed by the Mineral Department has given a completely digital form to the mineral administration of the state. This system is secure, multi-dimensional and user-friendly, which promotes transparency and efficiency. This initiative is establishing Chhattisgarh as a national model state in mining management. In accordance with the principles of Ease of Doing Business, the allocation of sand mines in the state is now being done through a completely online system. An MoU has been signed with MSTC for this. In the new system, human intervention has been eliminated and the entire process has been made transparent, fair and secure.
Under the star rating system implemented under the Minor Mineral Rules, 2015, mines are being evaluated on the standards of mining, environmental management, safety measures and sustainable development. Under this system, 03 mines have been awarded 5-star and 32 mines have been awarded 4-star ratings, which is proof of the state’s commitment towards scientific and responsible mining.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai says that mineral wealth is not only an economic source, but also the basis of the overall development of the state. Chhattisgarh has presented an ideal administrative model with coordinated efforts of policy reforms, digital transparency and sustainable development in the mining sector. This progress of the state is not only an indication of economic stability, but it is also a permanent step towards public interest-based development.
